Join a leading company in the building products industry, headquartered in the heart of downtown Chicago. With a long-standing reputation for quality and innovation, we manufacture and distribute materials used in residential and commercial construction projects across the U.S. As we continue to grow, we’re seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Payroll Processor to take ownership of our payroll function and ensure timely, accurate compensation for our employees.

The Senior Payroll Processor will be responsible for the end-to-end processing of multi-state payrolls on a bi-weekly basis. This role requires in-depth payroll processing experience, a strong understanding of payroll tax regulations, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and committed to confidentiality and compliance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Process full-cycle, multi-state payroll for hourly and salaried employees across multiple locations

  • Maintain and update employee payroll records including new hires, terminations, salary changes, and benefit deductions

  • Ensure payroll transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

  • Review and validate timesheets, commissions, and bonuses

  • Manage payroll tax filings and reconcile tax payments with third-party vendors or internal systems

  • Respond to employee inquiries related to pay, deductions, and time reporting

  • Support internal and external audits by providing payroll reports and documentation

  • Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to resolve payroll discrepancies and implement process improvements

  • Ensure payroll systems and practices meet organizational needs and regulatory requirements

  • Assist with year-end activities including W-2 preparation and reconciliations


Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations

  • Experience processing payroll for multiple states and locations

  • Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, Workday, or similar platforms)

  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, etc.)

  • High level of accuracy, discretion, and attention to detail

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation is a plus
