Director of Accounting – P&C INSURANCE

Our client is seeking a dynamic Director of Accounting to oversee their P&C Insurance Division. In this role, you’ll guide a team of 8 professionals, manage key financial reporting processes, and ensure compliance with both GAAP and statutory requirements.

This role is based in downtown Chicago, with an expectation of being onsite three days per week. However, highly qualified candidates may also be considered for a fully remote arrangement. The base salary range is $130,000–$200,000, plus eligibility for a 15% annual bonus. A comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical / dental / vision insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of accounting staff, fostering growth and readiness for future opportunities.

• Review and approve account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, proper documentation, and timely resolution of aged items.

• Manage accounting for premiums (direct, assumed, ceded), commissions (including DAC), and intercompany settlements.

• Partner with the P&C Controller on monthly and quarterly financial analytics, supporting GAAP and statutory filings.

• Contribute to the preparation of MD&A, financial statement footnotes, and other P&C disclosures included in 10-Q and 10-K filings.

• Review statutory statements for 37 domestic insurance companies.

• Oversee key SOX controls related to financial reporting.

• Drive improvements and take part in special projects, bringing both leadership and hands-on execution.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA preferred).

• 8+ years of progressive accounting/auditing experience, with solid knowledge of GAAP and statutory insurance reporting. P&C background required.

• Prior supervisory experience with a track record of developing high-performing teams.

• Familiarity with Workday Financials and Blackline strongly preferred.

• Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.

• Ability to adapt, think strategically, and deliver process improvements.
