LaSalle Network has partnered with a leading Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to advancing the use and understanding of steel within the industry and broader community. They serve as a vital resource for professionals, researchers, and enthusiasts, focusing on innovation, education, and advocacy related to steel. Join their passionate team and help them tell the compelling story of steel’s crucial role in the modern world.

We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Communications Specialist to manage and execute our client’s communication strategy. This role is central to raising their profile, engaging target audiences, and supporting their mission through compelling and professional content across multiple platforms.

Communications Specialist Responsibilities:
  • Write, edit, and distribute high-quality communication materials, including:
    • Professional press releases and media advisories.
    • Engaging website copy for news, events, and educational resources.
    • Creative and timely social media announcements and campaigns.
  • Manage the organization’s presence and content strategy on key digital platforms, including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, ensuring brand consistency and strategic audience engagement.
  • Serve as a communication partner to internal teams (e.g., membership, research, events) to understand their priorities and translate technical or programmatic information into clear, audience-appropriate content.
  • Represent the organization and its communications efforts at industry conferences, trade shows, and events, networking with stakeholders and gathering content.
  • Contribute to the development of communication plans and track the performance of content and campaigns to inform future strategy.

Communications Specialist Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of professional experience in a communications role.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills are essential. Candidates with a background in journalism or B2B/trade press—specifically experience writing for a professional or industry audience—are strongly preferred. Experience with consumer press is less relevant for this role.
  • Proven experience managing and creating content for professional social media platforms (especially LinkedIn and YouTube) and website content management systems (CMS).
  • A genuine interest in steel, engineering, construction, or related industrial sectors is a plus, along with the ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and translate them for various audiences.
  • Excellent organizational skills, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Salary: Competitive base salary up to $65,000, commensurate with experience.
  • Benefits: This position includes a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan options.

Location
