Manufacturing Test Technician / Service Technician
Location: Elgin, IL – up to 30% travel
Pay: $32/hr and up, based on experience ($66,560/yr)
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Manufacturing Test Technician / Service Technician to join a growing team. This role is responsible for final assembly, testing/debugging, field installation, and service of custom automation machinery. You will also participate in customer product testing, demonstrations, technician education, and final quality control inspection of machinery prior to shipment. Travel up to 30% domestically and internationally is required. The position is based in South Elgin, IL, with flexibility to work in Belvidere, IL.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

3+ years of experience as a field service technician

Additional experience as a lead machine builder testing, diagnosing, and debugging automated machinery

Proven field experience troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving machine failures
Key Responsibilities:

Perform machinery installations, service, and warranty claims through direct customer and representative contact

Provide technical support to engineering and manufacturing for machinery upgrades and configurations, including written documentation of field corrections and problems

Test product samples supplied by customers to determine equipment compatibility and configuration

Conduct final quality and performance testing of machinery

Engage in customer contact and assistance during machinery acceptance visits

Perform electrical and mechanical checks, analyze part control, machine functions, and operations per specifications

Ability to work from either South Elgin, IL or Belvidere, IL locations
Qualifications:
-
Associate’s degree or certificate from a college or technical school or equivalent experience

Experience with PLCs and Electrical systems (understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, ability to read ladder logic and perform basic editing)

Proficient in reading detailed 3D drawings, electrical and pneumatic schematics

Basic use of machine shop equipment such as drill press, grinder, mill, and lathe

Skilled in using hand tools and measuring equipment like calipers, micrometers, scales, and gauges
